Google Ads: Phrase & Exact Match Keywords

Phrase & Exact Match Keywords in Google Ads

When setting up Google Search campaigns in UpHex, you can control how closely a user's search query must match your keywords.

Keyword Match Types:

  • Broad Match (default): Your ad may show for searches related to your keyword, including synonyms and related terms.

  • Phrase Match: Wrap your keyword in quotation marks (e.g., "meal planning") so your ad shows for searches that include the meaning of your keyword.

  • Exact Match: Wrap your keyword in brackets (e.g., [meal planning]) so your ad shows only for searches with the exact same meaning.

How to Add Keywords in UpHex:

  1. When creating or editing a Google template, go to Step 4: Audience Signals.

  2. Enter your keywords in the Keywords section.

  3. Use quotation marks for phrase match or brackets for exact match as needed.

For most campaigns, starting with broad match and adding negative keywords as you review search terms is a good strategy.
