Using Custom Values (Variables) in UpHex Templates

Using Custom Values (Variables) in UpHex Templates

Custom values (also called custom variables) allow you to personalize templates at scale by inserting dynamic information—like business name, phone number, offer details, or location—without editing each asset manually.

They are one of the most important tools for making templates reusable, scalable, and easy to deploy across multiple clients.

Why Use Custom Values?

Without custom values, every time you launch a template you would need to manually edit:

  •  Ad copy
  •  Headlines
  •  Funnel pages
  •  SMS/email follow-ups
  •  CTAs and links

This quickly becomes inefficient and error-prone.

Custom values solve this by:

  •  Letting you build once and reuse infinitely
  •  Reducing setup time during launches
  •  Ensuring consistency across all assets
  •  Making templates plug-and-play for different businesses

👉 Think of them as “placeholders” that get filled in at launch.

Where Custom Values Can Be Used

You can place custom values anywhere inside a UpHex template, including:

  •  Ad copy (Primary text, headlines, descriptions)
  •  Funnel pages
  •  SMS & email automations
  •  Forms and CTAs
  •  Links and URLs

Custom Value Format (How to Create Them)

There are two supported formats for custom values in UpHex:

{{example_one}}
{{example.one}}

Rules:

  •  Always use double curly braces: {{ }}
  •  You can use:
    • underscores → example_one
    • dot notation → example.one
  •  The case that you use (uppercase, lowercase) is the case that will show up with you launch. For example, if you type {{City.Name}} then the value at launch will look like City Name. If you create {{city.name}} then the value at launch will look like city name
  •  Keep names clear and descriptive

Examples

{{business_name}}
{{phone_number}}
{{main.offer}}
{{city}}
{{website_url}}
{{booking.link}}

Example in Ad Copy:

Before:

Call Joe’s Plumbing today for a free estimate!

After:

Call {{business_name}} today for a free estimate!

Best Practices for Naming

Good naming makes launches faster and reduces confusion.

✅ Do:

  • {{business_name}}
  • {{main_offer}} or {{main.offer}}
  • {{contact_number}}

❌ Avoid:

  • {{name}} (too vague)
  • {{thing1}} (unclear)
  • {{biz}} (inconsistent)

👉 If someone else opened your template, would they instantly understand the variable?

How Custom Values Work During Launch

When you launch a template in UpHex, the system will automatically detect all custom values and prompt you to fill them in.

Step-by-Step:

  1.  Click Launch Template
  2.  UpHex scans for all {{custom_values}}
  3.  You’ll see a form with fields like:
    •  business_name
    •  phone_number
    •  main.offer
  4.  Enter the correct values for that specific client
  5.  Launch 🚀

What Happens After Launch?
UpHex automatically replaces every instance of the variable across the entire template.
Example Transformation:
Template:
Get a {{main.offer}} from {{business_name}} in {{city}} today!

After Launch:

Get a Free Roof Inspection from Elite Roofing in Dallas today!

Pro Tips

  • Reuse variables across assets → one input updates everything
  • Keep naming consistent across templates → faster launches

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  •  Forgetting curly braces → business_name ❌
  •  Mixing formats inconsistently within the same template
  •  Using different names for the same thing → {{phone}} vs {{phone_number}}
  •  Overcomplicating names → keep them simple
