Add one Microsoft Clarity project in UpHex and the Smart Pixel loads it on every client's website for you — no tag to paste, no developer needed. You get free heatmaps and session recordings, tagged by client, plus daily Clarity reports you can ask Uppie for.

Before you start

  • The UpHex Smart Pixel is on your clients' sites. Clarity only reaches sites that already run the UpHex website tracking script. Check a client's Tracking codes page if you're not sure.
  • You have a Microsoft Clarity account. It's free at clarity.microsoft.com. UpHex can't create Clarity projects for you, so you make the project there once.
  • You can manage the whole agency in UpHex. Users limited to selected clients can't set the agency-wide project.

Step 1: Create a Clarity project

  1. Sign in at clarity.microsoft.com and click New project.
  2. Give it a name, such as "Acme Agency – client sites". For Website URL, enter your main site or app URL. One project covers every client site, so the exact URL doesn't matter.
  3. Pick an industry and click Add new project.
  4. Skip Clarity's install instructions. The UpHex Smart Pixel installs it for you.
  5. Go to Settings → Overview and copy the Project ID. It's 10 letters and numbers, such as 3t0wlogvdz.

Step 2: Save the project in UpHex

  1. In UpHex, go to Settings → Integrations and find the Microsoft Clarity card.
  2. Paste the project ID into Microsoft Clarity project ID.
  3. Click Save project.

The card then shows Running on N clients: every client that doesn't have its own Clarity project. Clarity starts loading on their sites within about 10 minutes.

Clarity only records visitors who accept cookies, the same as your Facebook and Google pixels. Each session is tagged with the client's UpHex ID, so you can tell clients apart in Clarity.

Step 3 (optional): Turn on reports in UpHex

Connect a Data Export token if you want Uppie and Claude to report on your Clarity data. Clarity itself keeps working without it.

  1. In Clarity, open the project's Settings → Data export and click Generate new API token. Name it something like uphex-reports, then copy the token.
  2. In UpHex, on the same Microsoft Clarity card, open Reports (optional). Paste the token into Data export token and click Save changes.
  3. The card shows Reports connected.

UpHex pulls a daily snapshot every morning (05:30 UTC). Clarity only keeps the last 3 days in its export, so UpHex builds the history from your first sync onward. Older days can't be backfilled.

If the card says Token rejected, generate a new token in Clarity and paste it again.

Give one client its own Clarity project

Use a separate project when a client wants their own Clarity dashboard or their own daily reports. Clarity's export can't split one shared project by client.

  1. Create a second project in Clarity for that client (Step 1).
  2. In UpHex, open the client, then Tracking codes → Smart Tag Manager.
  3. Under Microsoft Clarity project ID it says Using agency project. Open Use a different project for this client and paste the client's project ID.
  4. Optionally, add that project's Data export token under Reports (optional).
  5. Click Save.

This changes only that one client. To switch back to the agency project, clear the field and save.

Or just ask Uppie

You can do all of this from chat with Uppie, or with Claude connected to the UpHex MCP. For example:

  • "Set up Microsoft Clarity for my agency with project 3t0wlogvdz."
  • "Give Acme Dental its own Clarity project, z9y8x7w6v5."
  • "How did my client sites do in Clarity last week? Show rage clicks and dead clicks by device."
  • "Is Clarity set up correctly for Acme Dental?"

After each change, Uppie tells you how many clients it reached and which ones have their own project. You still create the Clarity project yourself in Clarity, because UpHex can't create it for you.

Using it day to day

One client's recordings. In Clarity, open Recordings or Heatmaps and add the filter Custom tags → uphex_client_id, set to the client's UpHex ID. The ID is the number in the client's UpHex URL, e.g. /clients/1234.

Conversions. Each UpHex conversion rule also sends a Clarity custom event named after the rule, such as booked_consultation. Filter recordings by that event to watch the visits that converted. Clarity always keeps those sessions, even on busy sites. To turn this off for one rule, ask Uppie to disable Clarity on that conversion rule.

Each visitor is identified. Clarity sessions carry the UpHex visitor ID, so one person's repeat visits link together.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to check
No recordings after a dayThe client's site has the UpHex Smart Pixel installed and visitors are accepting cookies. Changes take up to 10 minutes to reach sites.
"That doesn't look like a Clarity project ID"Copy the ID from Clarity Settings → Overview, not the project name or the page URL.
Token rejectedThe token was deleted or expired in Clarity. Generate a new one under Settings → Data export.
Reports show missing daysUpHex can only store days from your first sync onward. A day can also be missing if Clarity's daily limit of 10 export calls was used up elsewhere.
The site already has its own Clarity tagUpHex leaves an existing Clarity install alone and won't add a second one. Remove the old tag if you want UpHex to manage it.

Clarity must not be used on sites aimed at people under 18 (Microsoft Clarity terms).
